The International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) is an Earth science competition run by the International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO). In the US, qualifying for the IESO begins with a preliminary national entrance exam covering a wide range of Earth science topics. Top scoring students may be invited to attend the USA IESO training camp located in Vermont. After the camp's completion, the top four students to represent the USA at the International Earth Science Olympiad are chosen.
The number one recommended preparation book for the national open exam competition is Tarbuck, Lutgens, Tasa's Earth Science. Reading this book cover to cover in this book should prepare you well for the exam. Past exams are available here.
